PROMT REACTION IS NEEDED-ARMENIA SOS
The Presidential Elections of 2008 in Armenia distorted by official competent bodies by using the governmental machine of repressive measures and criminal mechanisms. The data given by NGOs observing missions and monitoring, evaluations by the political parties put their candidacy for the presidential elections, and the society itself, that expresses its outburst in the square of Freedom in Yerevan, are the evidence of those distortions.
Nevertheless, all these didn't get their evaluation by European structures. The evaluation on February 20 given by OSCE/ ODIHR says that "Armenian presidential elections were mostly in line with international commitments" became a card blanch by the governmental authorities for further crimes and for taking actions against the citizens struggling for their rights. So, with such an assessment, the consecutive process of violation of the law by Armenian authorities gets to its logical victory with the assistance of European structures, i.e. "democratic" state with distorted elections.
Due to recent developments in Armenia , when the government attempted to disperse the demonstrators during the pre-dawn hours of March 1 and sparked after that in dispersion of the peaceful demonstration with armed army and police, we are getting an increasable number of applications from citizens.
According to data we have:
- there are a hundreds of people unknown lost;
- there are hundreds of wounded people;
- according to official data 8 people are dead, although witnesses believe the death toll could be substantially higher, about 50.
Now in Armenia a state of emergency imposed from March 1, we do not have any access to the places of detention where arrested people are kept. Moreover, the State Procurator publicly last day told in National Assembly that no one will be allowed into detention places. We got no response to our claims about getting at least the information about these people. According to witnesses, a lot of people kept in detention places are beaten and continue to be subject to ill- treatment. Among them:
Mushegh Saghatelyan
Isahak Malkhasyan
David Matevosyan
Masis Ayvazyan
Davit Arakelyan
Hovhannes Ghazaryan.
All of them are kept in Vardashen Criminal Correction Facility.
One of detainees Karapet Rubinyan started hunger strike from March 3.
We do not have any access to morgues either. They are closed and no information is given to people, NGOs, MPs.
We URGE your immediate assistance!!! We need your help to send Inspectors/ Monitors/ Investigators to Armenia 's detention places and morgues.
